Hi, I’m Jackie Burke — the solo traveler, history buff, and storyteller behind The Traveling Owl.

I started this site to share my two biggest passions:

  • Traveling the world — especially Europe, where cobblestone streets, hidden cafés, and centuries of culture inspire me every time I visit.
  • History — I love all history, from ancient civilizations to modern times, but I have a special love for World War II history. I’m endlessly fascinated by how places carry their past into the present — whether it’s walking through Berlin’s memorials, standing on the beaches of Normandy, or exploring villages that quietly witnessed the war. I believe that understanding history makes travel richer, deeper, and far more meaningful.

This site is completely owned and operated by me. I don’t have employees or a big team — just a laptop, a love of storytelling, and endless curiosity about the world.

That means every article is written from my perspective and experience. Whether it’s a detailed itinerary, a WWII history post, or a guide to a hidden European village, you can trust that it’s researched, written, and curated personally by me.
